The Voices Project

Summary: The Voices Project is book of oral histories of people who experience psychiatric symptoms, allowing them to speak for themselves, rather than being spoken for.

Project Description: My project is not limited to females. Both men and women have been interviewed, but all must have psychiatric disabilities.

Empowerment of disabled women and girls: Most of the people I've interviewed find it powerful to tell their stories and look forward to having the stories published.

Annual budget: I don't really operate from an annual budget. I have received funding through a Social Security Pass Plan, and donations from various organizations, including the Rhode Island Office of Rehabilitation Services, total value of about $12,000 over a five year period.

Project duration: Five years

Main funding challenge: Getting a publisher is my biggest challenge right now.
